The Illinois Assessment of Readiness, or IAR, is the state’s federally mandated measurement of students’ mastery of the Illinois Learning Standards in English language arts and math in Grades three through eight, and “their readiness for what’s next,” according to the Illinois State Board of Education.

       The IAR exam has five performance levels, including: Level 1 - Did Not Yet Meet Expectation; Level 2 - Partially Met Expectations; Level 3 - Approached Expectations; Level 4 - Met Expectations; and Level 5 - Exceeded Expectations.

       The ISBE data presented is preliminary, as roughly 10% of Illinois school districts postponed testing until this fall, while others are still reviewing the results. Parents and guardians with questions can request their children’s test results and the overall assessment data from their district’s administrative offices.
