A MAN today appeared in court charged with murdering a dad and his young wife in their home leaving their son orphaned.

Stanley Elliot is accused of killing Geoffrey Hibbert, 61, and his 29-year-old wife Michelle in Basingstoke, Hants, on Father's Day.

The couple had a young son aged about two who has now been left orphaned.

Elliot today appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court charged with two counts of murder.

The stocky 52-year-old spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during the brief hearing.

Unshaven Elliot waved to his brother, who was sat in the public gallery.

He was remanded in custody to next appear for a hearing at Winchester Crown Court on Friday.

Geoff was once a Father's For Justice protester who famously scaled a gantry on the M25 while dressed as Batman.

The "loveable rogue" stopped thousands of cars as he unfurled a banner with pictures of his then eight-year-old daughter on.

Speaking at the time he said: "I cannot describe how not being able to see her makes me feel.

“If I had taken her away I would be in prison for kidnap but my ex-partner can do it and it's fine. Where is the justice?"

Police were called to his semi-detached bungalow just after 2am on Sunday morning following reports of an altercation.

They discovered the bodies of Geoff and Michelle inside the home with Elliot arrested shortly after.

Geoff's brother Frank paid tribute to the dad outside the home yesterday.

He said: "I was going to come down to visit him yesterday, and when I saw a lot of police and blue lights and the road all cordoned off I knew it was my brother's house straight away.

"I want to find out what will happen to his son - he's only two or three years old and he's my main concern.

"Me and Geoffrey didn't see eye to eye all the time but as brothers and family we have helped each other out in the past. I know that if I asked him to do me a favour he would have done it.

"Now I have to go and tell all of this to my dad who lives in London, but I still don't know anything about what happened.

"I just want to know what's going on with the little boy and I want to see justice for whatever has happened."
