A man was shot and killed Sunday morning near one of the principal intersections in Northeast Washington.

       Martinez Johnson, 31, of Northeast, was found shortly after 9 a.m. in the 1600 block of Maryland Avenue NE, with apparent gunshot wounds, the police said.

       Officers were sent there after a shooting was reported, the police said. Johnson died at the scene.

       The place where he was found is a block or so northeast of the “starburst” intersection, where five prominent streets converge.

       In addition to Maryland Avenue, the streets are Benning Road NE, Bladensburg Road NE, Florida Avenue NE and H Street NE.

       Johnson’s death marked at least the third homicide in the District this weekend.
