Queen notably absent from Christmas Day service announcement made by Charles and Camilla

The Queen is notably absent in the latest statement issued by Clarence House. Prince Charles and Camilla's office announced a few members of the Firm will head to St George's Chapel on Christmas morning.

The statement read: "The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will attend a morning service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle" on Christmas Day."

This announcement suggests the monarch may have decided against attending the service.

This comes as the Queen has been seen leaving her home in Berkshire only on a handful of occasions since October 20, when her doctors advised her to only carry out light duties and rest.

Last month, she was spotted travelling to the Royal Chapel near the castle to attend the double christening of Lucas Tindall and August Brooksbank.

Over the past two months, she hasn't undertaken any royal duties outside palace walls.

This is the second year in a row Her Majesty doesn't spend Christmas at Sandringham due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In recent years, the Queen has normally travelled to the chapel for the Christmas service by car in the company of a relative.

The other members of the family would walk the short distance between Sandringham House and St Mary Magdalene Church.

Earlier this week, Clarence House had already announced Prince Charles and Camilla will spend Christmas Day with the sovereign, crushing royal fans' fears the monarch would spend her first festive period as a widow apart from her family.

The mention in the statement of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and of Prince Richard and Duchess Birgitte suggests these four royals may also keep the Queen company on Saturday.

Seven members of the Royal Family will surely not be with the Queen tomorrow.

A senior royal source said on Wednesday that Princess Anne was self-isolating at her home in Gloucestershire, Gatcombe Park, after her husband Sir Timothy Laurence contracted Covid.

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William are also not expected at Windsor Castle this weekend.

It was confirmed on Thursday afternoon the pair and their children George, Charlotte and Louis will be spending Christmas at their home in Norfolk, Anmer Hall.

They will be joined by some members of the Middleton family.

The Queen will mark tomorrow her first Christmas since the death of Prince Philip.

The late Duke of Edinburgh, who died in April at Windsor Castle, was surely in the monarch's mind as she recorded her annual speech.

An image released on Thursday night and taken from the Christmas broadcast, to be aired on December 25 at 3pm, shows the monarch wearing a festive red dress.

The monarch adorned her outfit with a brooch filled with significance, as she also wore it in pictures taken during her honeymoon with Philip and on their Diamond wedding anniversary.

Moreover, on her desk, she displayed a photograph taken to mark their 60th year as a married couple.

Most notably, the sovereign wore the brooch on her right side rather than on the left side as she has done throughout her reign.

This may be a nod to her new status as a widow - much like many people who lost their partners move their wedding ring on the right hand.

The Queen's broadcast will come just hours after another royal festive appointment will be screened on TV.

Tonight, ITV is to air Together at Christmas, the Christmas carol concert hosted by Kate.
