Blue Island police are investigating a shooting that took place during an argument Tuesday that left a 22-year-old Alsip man dead.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Ellis Kuebec-Artes Jr., who was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Police said they responded shortly after 1 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 13000 block of Seeley Avenue and found Kuebec-Artes in an apartment with gunshot wounds, and another man who had also been shot in the 12800 block of Hoyne Avenue, one block west of the Seeley address.
Kuebec-Artes suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office. The other man also was taken to Christ Medical Center and underwent surgery, police said.
Police said their initial investigation showed Kuebec-Artes and the wounded man shot at each other during an argument in the apartment.

Police said a third man, who had a gunshot wound to the leg, was found hiding in a garage near the Seeley address, but it was not clear whether he was involved in the alleged argument. He also was taken to Christ Medical Center.
No additional information was available Wednesday and police continued to investigate, according to Chief Geoffery Farr.
