A GROUP of students from a medical university in India set fire to four shops on campus, which almost led to a full-scale riot, Malaysia Nanban reported.
They had apparently got into an argument with a pharmacist and this escalated into a fight.
Four shops were doused with petrol and set on fire by the students.
The subsequent brawl led to a shopworker getting stabbed and three policemen being injured.
Several vehicles were also reportedly set on fire.
The furious shop owners and their supporters staged their own demonstrations, leading to hundreds of riot police being brought in to quell matters.
The cause of the dispute that started the chain of events is unknown.
