Police investigating the death of a woman in Plymouth have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.
In an update on Thursday evening, police confirmed Paul Antony Butler, 53, was arrested in Liskeard.
Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to the West Hoe area at 8.55pm on Wednesday after a woman was found seriously injured in the street.
The victim was treated at the scene in West Hoe Road by paramedics and taken to the city's Derriford Hospital - but has since died. Her next of kin have been informed.
The force said West Hoe Road was closed and a large police presence remained at the scene as officers search for a male suspect.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: "Cordons will likely remain in place for the rest of the day and police units will remain in the area.
“I wish to make the public aware we are looking to locate a man in relation to this incident whose identity is known, and enquiries are ongoing to find him.
“At this time, I would like to reassure the community and further afield in Plymouth that there is no suggestion that there is a wider risk to members of the public.
“There will be a heightened police presence and visibility in the coming days in the area as enquiries are ongoing. We will of course update the public once we have further information."
Photographs showed multiple police armed with guns and forensic officers, with parts of the area taped off.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Paul Antony Butler, 53, who was wanted in connection to the death of a woman in Plymouth has been located and arrested in Liskeard.
"He is currently in police custody having been arrested on suspicion of murder."
