TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan's Daiya Seto, a gold medal favorite in the men's 400-meter individual medley, failed to qualify for the event's final at the Tokyo Olympics at on Saturday.
The reigning and three-time 400 IM world champion, Seto swam to ninth place in his heat, clocking 4 minutes, 10.52 seconds at Tokyo Aquatics Centre, to miss out on the eight-man final on Sunday.
Seto, won world championships in the event in 2013, 2015 and 2019, and was the 400 IM bronze medalist at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.
