Currently the waiting list stands at 7.5 million treatments. Figures are down from a peak of nearly 7.8 million in September but that is still three million more than before the pandemic.

Significantly more people in Wales (29%) reported they were waiting for a hospital appointment, test or treatment from the NHS than in England (25%).
Education in Wales tells a similar story of crisis. Welsh students consistently underperform compared to their counterparts in England and Scotland.
Wales' performance has fallen to its lowest level ever in maths, reading and science tests taken by 15-year olds.
In the first international Pisa assessments since Covid, Welsh scores were the lowest of all UK nations and the results gap has widened.
All UK nations saw a slump in maths but it was the steepest in Wales.
The Labour-run government also launched what many saw as an attack on motorists by introducing a blanket 20mph speed limit in built-up areas. But some roads will return to 30mph, following a backlash against the controversial limit.
Sir Keir Starmer in 2022 described the Welsh Government as providing a “blueprint for what Labour can do across the UK”.

But last year he twice declined to repeat his previous claim that Welsh Labour was his “blueprint” for power after Labour’s governance in Wales was marked by a series of failures.
But the Tories were wiped out in Wales, with the party losing all of its MPs.
Labour won 27 of the 32 Welsh seats while Plaid ended with four MPs and the Liberal Democrats one but the Tories, who won 14 at the 2019 election, were left with none.

Among those who lost out was David TC Davies, who was Secretary of State for Wales in Rishi Sunak’s government. Three other former Welsh secretaries, Alun Cairns, Simon Hart and Stephen Crabb, were also defeated.
So, could Labour-run Wales be a blueprint for Sir Keir Starmer's vision for UK? Many will be hoping the answer to that is "no".
