IPOH: A 42-year-old man died while three others sustained injuries in a collision involving five heavy vehicles along the North-South Expressway near Simpang Pulai, near here.
Perak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Azizan Hassan said the victim - Ahmad American Ahmad Danial - was heading north in his tanker from Pasir Puteh, Ipoh, lost control of his vehicle and rammed into a lorry.
He said in the 10.15pm incident on Wednesday (June 23) the victim died at the scene, and his body was sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortem.
“The lorry which the tanker hit, then slid forward and crashed into three other lorries.
“The 47-year-old lorry driver suffered from chest pains, while a 27-year-old assistant lorry driver and a 34-year-old driver of another vehicle sustained hand and leg injuries respectively,” he said.
He said the injured have been sent to the same hospital for treatment. Two other lorry drivers escaped unhurt.
The case he said is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
