DUNGUN: A total of 8.6 million outstanding traffic summonses were settled during the discount period launched in conjunction with the 100-Day Keluarga Malaysia Aspirasi Programme.
The programme was held from Dec 9 until Friday. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah said this proved that the traffic summons discount offer was well received by the public, considering that 12.2 million summonses were settled throughout 2021.
“The public really took advantage of the discount offer to settle their outstanding summonses,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama after visiting the Kampung Jongok Batu on-site control post here yesterday.
Asked if there were plans to extend the discount, Acryl Sani said there was none at the moment.
He said this was because the number of people paying their summonses at the traffic payment counters nationwide had lessened by the end of last month.
On another matter, Acryl Sani said as the chairman of the Disaster Operations Response Committee, the police force was satisfied with the role played by all the related agencies in its handling of the floods in accordance with the National Security Council Directive No. 20. This included those at state level.
“Based on the directive, all agencies will be involved under the gotong-royong concept.
“At the contingent level, a Disaster Operations Response Committee meeting has been held, during which the state police chief has called all related agencies to discuss and give details of their roles.
“I am satisfied at this point with the feedback from state police chiefs. Preparations have been made. We pray that what we have planned will run smoothly,” he said.
The number of lives lost in the recent floods reached 50 as of yesterday while two more victims in Telemong and Bentong remain missing.
