Emmanuel Macron meets French team before Rugby World Cup
Emmanuel Macron has been left red-faced this evening after being booed by thousands of rugby fans in France.
The French President received a frosty reception as he addressed the crowds at the Stade de France to mark the opening of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
The divisive figure was speaking ahead of the first match - France v New Zealand - which started at 8.15 BST.
The skies above the French capital city were illuminated by an impressive fireworks display during the opening ceremony.
But this wasn't enough to cheer up some fans - who shouted and booed as Macron addressed them before the highly anticipated clash.

The controversial politician has come under fire in recent months over the migrant crisis, and mass protests have taken place throughout the country.
Earlier this summer, a series of horrific riots took place after 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk, of Algerian and Moroccan descent, was shot dead at the hands of police during a traffic stop in France.
And Macron has been coming under increasing pressure to sort out the migrant crisis, as it was revealed that neighbouring Belgium is far more effective at stopping small boats leaving their shores as they head to the UK.
It comes as Prince William and Princess Kate are making the trip over to watch Team England play at the tournament - weeks after missing out on watching the Lionesses lose to Spain at the Women's World Cup in Australia.

As all eyes look towards the next few weeks of rugby, it was devastation for New Zealand as they suffered a late injury blow ahead of the Rugby World Cup opener when captain Sam Cane was ruled out.
The All Blacks announced just 45 minutes before kick-off at Stade de France that flanker Cane would miss the heavyweight Pool A clash.
The nature of his injury has not been revealed.
Number eight Ardie Savea took over as skipper, with Dalton Papali’i moving from blindside to openside flanker and Tupou Vaa’i being promoted to the starting XV.
