PETALING JAYA: Umno MPs are free to vote in their support for the Prime Minister in Parliament, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

       In a statement, the Umno secretary-general said the decision to allow Umno MPs to vote using their wisdom in Parliament was decided at the party’s supreme council meeting on Wednesday (July 7).

       "The Umno supreme council has taken the decision that during Parliament sittings, Umno MPs can use their own wisdom in any voting session.

       "However, it is understood that the party's decisions must be considered when carrying out their responsibilities.

       "The Umno president also congratulates Ismail Sabri (Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob) on his appointment as the Deputy Prime Minister," said Ahmad on Thursday (July 8).

       The statement follows after Umno ministers and a majority of its MPs stayed put in their solidarity for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin despite the party retracting its support for the Prime Minister following the Umno supreme council meeting.
