KUALA LUMPUR: Many in Umno still cannot let go of their anger towards Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for its "betrayal" in the 2018 general election, says a General Assembly delegate.
“We also want the election (to be called now) because we can’t stand seeing how some party members have been ‘friendly’ with Bersatu,” Rembau Umno Youth information chief Shukri Shamsudin said.
He also said Umno leaders should be open to new ideas from the Youth and Puteri wings in order for the party to stay relevant and progress.
Shukri said the party's leaders must listen to the grassroots and learn from the past to avoid another general election defeat.
“Put a stop to fights (in the party). Unite and work together to achieve the best for Umno,” he said in his debate speech on the presidential address here on Friday (March 18).
More Umno leaders were also needed in government to listen to the people and this meant that a general election should be called, he added.
“The people are still suffering. We need ministers who can listen to the plight of the rakyat, and these should be from Umno,” he added.
The debate on the presidential address will continue on Saturday (March 19).
