MELAKA: All six Umno divisions in the state have vehemently rejected working with Parti Pribumi Bersatu (Bersatu) in the Melaka election.
State Umno deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad said the party will foster cooperation with PAS for the polls.
"We prefer not to work with Bersatu after how the latter treated Umno grassroots in the state (and) hurt their feelings," he told a press conference at Klebang here on Monday (Nov 1).
Mohammad Ali, who is also Tangga Batu Umno chief, said the party's members were also not given opportunities to hold positions in village development committees and other important jobs in the two constituencies which were previously under Bersatu.
Other Umno leaders present at the press conference were Kota Melaka division chief Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, Hang Tuah Jaya chief Datuk Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali, Alor Gajah deputy chief Datuk Rosepandi Leman and Kota Melaka Youth chief Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halim.
Mohammad Ali said Melaka Umno will continue to strengthen its relationship with PAS and prepare Muafakat Nasional to face the Melaka election.
“We urge PAS to work with us in our effort to (win) the state in the upcoming election and for the good of the locals," he added.
