PUTRAJAYA: The day after a caretaker government took over Malaysia’s administration saw the country’s civil service running without a hitch. With no ministers or deputy ministers in charge, the day-to-day workings of the government are helmed by ministry secretaries- general and department heads.
Chief Secretary to the government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali chaired a virtual meeting yesterday with ministry heads and reminded them to ensure that there were no disruptions in its daily dealings.
“All ministries and government agencies will continue to focus on efforts to restore the economy and to implement important policies. This is for the sake of the people’s and nation’s survival.
“Our country will continue to be governed well with the unwavering commitment of civil servants from all sectors be it security, defence, health, economy and education,” said Mohd Zuki in a Facebook post yesterday.
One of the government’s largest initiatives, the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, continued as normal with its daily vaccination schedules.
On Tuesday, the country administered a total of 501,776 vaccine shots. This included 325,902 people who received their second vaccine doses.
To date, over 28 million vaccine doses have been administered in the country.
About 52% of the population has received at least one vaccine dose, while 33% have been fully vaccinated.
Daily vaccination figures continued to be updated by the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV).
Deputy secretary-general of the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir visited the Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPV) at Bukit Jalil National Stadium and Axiata Arena yesterday.
She observed the ongoing vaccination programme at the two PPV, where walk-ins are now allowed for non-Malaysians.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 National Recovery Plan-related announcements are now issued by the National Security Council.
The daily press statements have been issued by National Security Council director-general Datuk Rodzi Md Saad since Monday.
Previously, they were issued by the former Senior Minister of the Security Cluster, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and later Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
Daily Covid-19 case figures continued to be released by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, as it had been since the start of the pandemic.
Malaysia is currently under a caretaker government following the stepping down of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister and the subsequent resignation of all Cabinet members.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented for Muhyiddin to be caretaker Prime Minister pending the appointment of a new premier.
