GEORGE TOWN: Two men and a woman were burnt to death after their car crashed into a tree along Jalan Masjid Negeri here.
Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Sha’ari Mansor said they received a call about the incident at 2.55am yesterday.
“When we arrived, the car was on fire and the three victims were trapped inside.
“The victims, believed to be two men and a woman in her 20s, were removed using rescue tools. The fire was successfully put out by 3.20am.
“All the victims died at the scene,” he said.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said early investigations revealed that the victims suffered 90% burns after they were removed from the vehicle at about 5.40am.
“The bodies were sent to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident. The case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.
