JOHOR BARU: Police have reminded political parties and their supporters involved in the Johor election to compete healthily and not incite hatred.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said there were several incidents where the flags of a political party were burned and taken down in the Layang-Layang state seat.
"We are taking the incidents seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation on the matter," he told reporters after visiting several campaign locations by political parties here.
Comm Kamarul added that police would be calling on representatives of political parties to assist in the investigation.
He said entering the third day of campaigning which started on Saturday (Feb 26), there were no untoward incidents except the flag burnings which happened on Monday (Feb 28) morning.
Comm Kamarul said police would continue to monitor the situation and beef up its operations including increasing the number of personnel to ensure no provocations or the repeat of the earlier incident.
"My advice to political parties and their supporters is to avoid taking any action which could jeopardise the situation," he said.
Apart from the flag burning in the Layang-Layang state seat, the posters of PKR were allegedly destroyed in Tenggaroh state seat.
Comm Kamarul also reminded all parties to comply with the SOPs imposed by the relevant authorities to prevent the spreading of Covid-19 cases.
"If the regulations stated that political ceramah should end by 10pm, they (political parties) should obey the rule," he said.
Comm Kamarul said police would not hesitate to take action against those who violate the rule.
