A MAN in Ipoh was shocked and devastated when his small vegetable farm was destroyed by the city council with no warning, Makkal Osai reported.

Tharmendran Kannapiran, 25, started the small farm on an empty piece of land in Buntong with about RM7,000 five years ago.

However, a neighbour allegedly complained about the farm to the council, which led to the patch being destroyed.

Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran said even though the farm was set up without a permit, it was on unused land.

Destroying one’s livelihood without consideration and any warning was inhumane, he said.

       > The daily also reported on a disabled man who received a three-wheel motorbike to continue his small business.

Kumar, 46, from Nibong Tebal, Penang, reportedly fell from a tree 10 years ago and has not been able to use his legs since.

He, however, still works to support his family by getting around in a wheelchair with the help of his 12-year-old son.

Social activist and teacher A. Mahadevi, who found out about his plight, contacted Nibong Tebal MP Dr Mansor Othman’s service centre for help.

Mansor, who is the Deputy Environment and Water Minister, arranged for a three-wheel motorcycle worth RM3,000 to be provided to Kumar.
