A woman was killed in Howard County early Saturday when she was struck by a vehicle while in a roadway, the county police said.

       The woman was hit on Route 29 in Columbia near Rivers Edge Road about 3:40 a.m., Howard County police said.

       She died at the scene, they said. She had not been identified as of late Saturday, according to the police.

       The matter is under investigation, police said. It was not clear from a police account what the woman was doing in the roadway.
