MERSING: Indonesian authorities have called off the search operation for missing Dutch teenage diver Nathan Renze Chesters, whose body is believed to have drifted into the country's waters.

The operation officially ended at 7pm on Sunday (April 17) after no new leads on the victim were found around Pulau Bintan waters.

Mersing MMEA maritime zone director maritime commander Nizam Misran said Indonesian authorities announced the operation's cessation after a seven-day search that began on April 10.

“The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has informed the British and Netherlands embassies,” he said here on Monday (April 18).

Nizam also expressed his thanks to all the agencies involved for their cooperation throughout the operation.

Earlier this month, four European scuba divers went missing off Pulau Tokong Sanggol here: dive master Kristine Grodem, 35, from Norway; British national Adrian Peter Chesters, 46; his Dutch national son Nathan Renze Chesters, 14; and French woman Alexia Alexandra Molina, 18.

Only Grodem, Adrian and Molina were found.

Adrian then told Malaysian authorities that his son did not make it and died after becoming too weak, and his body was likely to have drifted into Indonesian waters.
