       THIS was the tragic last selfie by a student moments before he plunged 2,000ft down a ravine in the Austrian Alps during a Boxing Day hike.

       A large rescue operation searched the ravines Credit: Bergrettung.Bad.Ischl

       He was reported a missing in the area of Bad Ischl, a spa town near the city of Salzburg on December 26.

       A team of 20, with two helicopters, a drone and search dogs then set out to find the missing Brazilian, scouring the ravines and trenches.

       He had arrived in Austria as a student a few weeks earlier, according to local media reports.

       It is believed that he slipped and fell to his death after while climbing the 5,725ft summit after having set out on a day trip alone.

       After having reached the beginning of the climb, the 'Engen Zimnitz' at a height of 1,909ft, Braian posted some pictures of the serene mountain setting - which turned out to be the last known images of him alive.

       Some time after that, he reportedly plunged approximately nearly 2,000ft down a ravine to his death.

       The emergency rescue services issued an appeal to the public, sharing photos of Braian on social media and asking people to get in touch if they had seen him.

       They wrote: "Braian Paulon de Andrade, a 25-year-old student from Brazil, went on a trip with public transport from Perg to Bad Ischl on 26th December.

       "In Bad Ischl he hiked from the train station over the Dammweg to the Pfandl district and there in the direction of the 'Engen Zimnitz'.

       "From there he sent photos for the last time at 1.07pm. Since then, his track has been lost. We ask for the help of the population regarding whether or not Brian has been seen after 26th December, 2021, at 1.07pm."

       But the lifeless body of the Brazilian student was found by local rescuers yesterday morning.

       It is believed that his body will be repatriated to Brazil for burial.

       And back in the UK, a teenager died when he plunged 100ft on a mountain walk with pals to see waterfalls.

       The 18-year-old was coming down a steep 100ft slope on Pen-Pych mountain in the Rhondda Valleys, South Wales, when he plunged down.

       Emergency services and a helicopter rushed to the remote scene - but the teenager died from his injuries.

       In a similarly horrific incident, a woman died after falling 50ft while rock climbing while trying to fix a hook at a spot where three different safety measures failed.

       Lauren Sobel, 25, was leading two climbers at the Mohonk Mountain Preserve in New York on Sunday afternoon when she lost her grip when setting up protective gear, New York Post reported.

       Lauren was about 70 feet up the rock face before falling 50 feet where she died at the scene, police said.
