VOTERS do not trust Keir Starmer on Brexit, a bombshell poll reveals today (Thur).

Barely one in 10 people have faith in the Labour leader to maximise our freedoms from being outside the EU with more than half not trusting him “at all” to deliver.

And almost two-thirds do not believe the Prime Minister can combat spiralling immigration.

The damning findings, in an exclusive mega survey for the Daily Express, back up fears that Sir Keir is trying to “reverse” Brexit and has no plan to tackle the issues that Britons really care about.

Labour’s desire for closer ties with Europe and failure to bring down net-migration will also severely damage the party’s re-election chances.

The poll shows Sir Keir’s party is on course to lose 130 seats to just 283 at the next election, with its vote share plunging to just 25%.

It means they would be 43 seats short of securing an overall majority.

Nigel Farage’s pro-Brexit Reform UK will reap the benefits, surging to 118 seats and securing 24% of votes.

This places them slightly ahead of Kemi Badenoch’s Conservatives, on 20% but with 113 seats, a fall of eight.

The wide-ranging poll, carried out by Whitestone Insight last week, provides a withering assessment of the government’s popularity after just six months in power.

A blizzard of eye-catching results show that just 9% of voters say they trust Sir Keir “a lot” to maximise Brexit while just over half, 51%, do not trust him and his Government “at all” to do so.

Current Labour voters are lukewarm in their backing for the party’s capability on Brexit, with only one in five, 19%, say they trust the current government “a lot” to deliver.

Critics argue that if Sir Keir gives the green light to joining the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention (PEM), a European customs scheme, Britain’s global trading capabilities will suffer.

According to the poll, which comes on the eve of the 5th anniversary of Brexit, most people, 43%, believe Brexit would be a better success if the UK could trade more openly across world markets, followed by stopping illegal immigration, 42%, and attracting more business investment, 37%.

Tory MP Andrew Rosindell said: “I’m afraid the Starmer government is never going to make the most of Brexit because they disagree with Brexit and they are dishonest really because they say they won’t take us back into the EU but they will find all sorts of ways to tie us in.

“Secretly they are going to try and realign Britain back to the EU and that’s very bad. If we want to be global free traders again and bring prosperity the last thing we want to do is to be tied to Brussels rules and regulations.

“We broke free of that and we should be making the most of it and not locking ourselves back into Brussels control.”

Downing Street insisted yesterday (Wed) the government wants to “look forwards not backwards and make Brexit work for the British people”.

“This is why we are resetting our relationship with the EU,” the Prime Minister’s spokesman said.

Voters also overwhelmingly do not trust Sir Keir to curb immigration with 62% saying they do not believe he will.

The results come a day after stark new figures revealed that migration will lead to another five million people living in the UK in the next seven years, driving the country’s population to 72.5 million.

Some 68% of voters agreed that they “accept the need to allow immigration but feel that successive governments have let the country down by failing to control it”.

Of these, 63% of Labour voters agreed, 77% of Conservatives and 85% of Reform UK supporters.

Only 20% of people overall said they are “happy with current levels of immigration”.

Labour voters came out on top with 35% while only 10% of Tories said they were happy and just 2% of Reform UK supporters.

Asked if “people arriving in the UK on small boats from France should be returned to France,” some 64% of voters said they agreed.

Of these, 51% of Labour voters agreed but this jumped to 84% of Conservatives and 96% from Reform UK.

Just 41% of adults say the UK has “benefited hugely from immigration,” with 61% of Labour voters, 29% of Tories and 14% of Reform UK supporters agreeing with the statement.

More than half, 52%, of people agree that Britain should leave the European Convention on Human Rights if it prevents us from deporting migrants who commit serious criminal offences.

Of these, 37% of Labour supporters agree, 71% of Conservatives and 90% from Reform UK.

Mr Rosindell added: “It is the defining issue of our time. If we don’t get a grip on immigration this country will be unrecognisable.

“We are talking about half a million people every year coming into this country.

“No party has been elected to let immigration explode in this way. There has to be a radical plan of action to control and limit the number of people coming in and deporting those who are here illegally.”

Tory MP Mark Francois said: “We had the Rwanda plan to deal with the boats issue. Some people liked it, some people didn’t, but it’s one more plan than Labour have got.

“All they’ve got is a bunch of slogans like ‘smash the gangs’ but I'm afraid the gangs remain resolutely un-smashed. I think people are going to get more and more annoyed as the boats keep turning up.”

Andrew Hawkins, CEO of Whitestone, said: “This poll reveals three facts about the current state of UK politics.

“First, Reform UK are benefiting from a perfect storm in the form of a Labour Party which appears deaf to the needs of the working class, and a Conservative Party whose own voters acknowledge their abject failure in government.

“Second, if Labour do not get immigration under control they will not only fail to regain voters already lost to Reform but are likely to lose even more.

“Third, after five years of Tory failure to take advantage of Brexit, expectations are unsurprisingly low about Labour’s ability to do it properly. Yet this poll shows that wins on global trade and immigration could make a large proportion of voters feel that Brexit has been a success.”
