PETALING JAYA: The indoor and outdoor sporting industries should be reopened, says the Sports Industry Coalition (SIC).
"The Covid-19 pandemic has brought the sporting industry in Malaysia to a near-halt
since March 2020. This has led to company closures, retrenchment and non-performing loans," said the SIC.
SIC added in a press release on Wednesday (Sept 8) that numerous requests and SOP revisions have been put forward to the government through the Youth and Sports Ministry since March.
"Studies have shown that sports and active lifestyle can create a stronger immune system and reduce the probability of infection and a higher chance of recovery if infected," said SIC.
Meanwhile SIC representative Azman Fahmi said that he is pleading to the government to allow sports industry players to earn their own living.
"SIC does not believe that financial support is sufficient to the industry and we are suffering. We urge the government to prioritize the reopening of the sporting industry immediately."
