PETALING JAYA: Only Sarawak and Labuan have an infectivity rate (Rt) below the national average of 1.18.
According to the latest data from the Health Ministry, the Rt in Sarawak is 0.94 while in Labuan, it is 0.74.
No Rt has been recorded for Perlis, which has only one case.
Sarawak, the largest state in Malaysia, is expected to hold its state election soon.
It has a vaccination rate of almost 76% (first dose) among its adult population, almost 55% of its total population.
Fully vaccinated individuals in the state form about 30% of the total population.
Labuan has at least 86% of its adult population – or 55% of its total population – vaccinated with at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
Some 41% of its total population are fully vaccinated.
The Rt value refers to the average number of people who may contract Covid-19 from an infectious person.
Currently, Terengganu has the highest Rt value of 1.31, followed by Putrajaya (1.26), Kedah (1.25), Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan (1.19).
Penang’s Rt is on par with the national average of 1.18 while the infectivity rate in Perak, Selangor and Melaka stand at 1.17.
Sabah has an Rt of 1.15, followed by Kelantan (1.13), Pahang and Johor (1.10).
The number of Covid-19 cases and deaths went up in late June from above 4,000 new daily cases to a record of 13,215 cases on July 15, when 110 deaths were also recorded.
