TWO locals were arrested outside a vaccination centre (PPV) at the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (UniSHAMS) international Islamic University, reported Kosmo!Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the incident took place at around 11.45am on Tuesday when the stepbrothers, aged 19 and 27, allegedly provoked members of the public who were there for their vaccination.
He said the fight was triggered after one of the suspects was told off by an individual for driving dangerously close to the vaccination centre, adding that someone then swung a golf club at him.
Comm Kamarul said the other stepbrother then threatened a man who tried to cool things down.
He said policemen present at the vaccination centre managed to break up the fight with the help from other members of the public.
“The 19-year-old suspect who was also unemployed was arrested at the location at about 12.30pm. The golf club was confiscated at a carpark in Kampung Ladang Kupang.
“Police then raided a house at Ladang Kupang and arrested a 27-year-old man working as an operator at a glove factory, and seized a car,” he added.
Comm Kamarul said the case will be investigated under Section 506 and Section 16 of the Penal Code, Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act.
> The Kuantan City Council (MBK) has installed 10 CCTVs in several strategic locations to curb theft, after several of its decorative plants kept getting stolen, Sinar Harian reported.
MBK corporate communications chief Norkamawati Kamal said the CCTVs had to be fitted as many plants that were placed to beautify roads in the district were stolen.
“We had to put the CCTVs around Taman Fas, Jalan Bypas and around Jalan Wong Ah Jang to track down individuals who were stealing plants,” she said.
Norkamawati said last August, about 150 decorative plants of the “ixora sunkist” species worth RM2,500 planted around Kuantan were stolen.
“How dare they steal when MBK is actively planting decorative flowers. This is just too much!” she was quoted as saying.
Norkamawati said the plant thefts would only hamper efforts by the city council to spruce up Kuantan.
