GEORGE TOWN: The body of a man was found floating in waters off Teluk Kumbar here on Sunday (Sept 26).
Penang Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Capt Abd Razak Mohamed said the body was found by fishermen, who alerted the agency at 4.10pm.
"Upon receiving the report, MMEA sent patrol boat Kilat 26 to the location and and found the body floating 1.1 nautical miles (2km) south of Pasir Belanda, Teluk Kumbar," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 27).
Capt Abd Razak said the man was clad in black trousers and a black shirt, but there was no identification found on his body.
He said the man's remains were brought to the Batu Uban marine police jetty and handed over to the police for further action.
Capt Abd Razak said MMEA has yet to receive any report of persons lost at sea, and urged anyone whose family member is missing to come forward and lodge a police report.
He also reminded the maritime community not to go out to sea during bad weather but if they have no choice, they should take the proper safety precautions such as wearing a lifejacket.
