A teenager who was originally cast as a shooting victim when he and an older man suffered gunshot wounds Tuesday has since been arrested on suspicion of shooting the older man and is expected to appear in court Thursday to face a felony count of aggravated battery with a firearm.
The 16-year-old, shot in the shoulder, was initially identified as a victim by a bystander of the North Austin shooting, along with a 42-year-old man who was shot in the leg. But after investigating, detectives determined that he was one of the people who shot the older man, said Karie James, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Police Department.
The shooting happened at 7:02 p.m. in the 1700 Block of North Mango Avenue, and the teen was arrested about two hours later in the first block of Erie Court in Oak Park, police said.
At the time of his arrest, the 16-year-old’s condition had been stabilized, according to police, and the 42-year-old was in good condition. He was arrested at Stroger Hospital and “charged accordingly,” James said in an email.
“Details will eventually be detailed in court. We can not release anything further at this time,” James said.
