IPOH: All non-Islam houses of worship in the state will have a police officer as its liaison person for better communication with the police.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said he had tasked all district OCPDs to set up meetings with the religious heads of their respective districts in order to appoint the liaison officers.

“We started a ‘One Mosque, One Policeman’ initiative last year. We want to extend this to the non-Islam houses of worship to strengthen our ties and have better cooperation with them,” he told reporters yesterday at the police air unit training base here.

He said this after a dialogue and briefing on the latest standard operating procedures for non-Islam houses of worship with heads of non-Islam religious groups.

“We are working on this in stages and hope to get it done as soon as possible,” he said.

On the investigation into a case whereby a helicopter was used to pick up “nasi ganja” here last year, Comm Mior Faridalathrash said the investigation papers had been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor’s office.

“The papers were submitted several times but they still required further investigations as there were still some other things that needed to be looked into.

“The case is not closed yet,” he said, adding that the police are now waiting for the next order.

In July last year, a helicopter, which was only permitted to cross state borders for maintenance work, was spotted picking up 36 packets of “nasi ganja” after it landed at the Ipoh Padang here.

Yesterday, Comm Mior Faridalathrash said that police would ensure that investigations would be completed as soon as possible.
