       The Centre for Vietnam and ASEAN studies, Institute for Far Eastern studies of RAS will organize on May 19-20, 2014 the V-th scientific-practical conference devoted to ？Anniversary dates of 2014-2015 in Vietnamese history？.

       ANNOUNCMENT

       The Centre for Vietnam and ASEAN studies, Institute for Far Eastern studies of RAS will organize on May 19-20, 2014 the V-th scientific-practical conference devoted to ？Anniversary dates of 2014-2015 in Vietnamese history？. We kindly invite all scholars occupied with Vietnamese studies in Russia and abroad to make their presentations and participate in the discussion.

       We expect that the participants will assess following events and related processes in Vietnamese society and the state (not excluding other memorable dates):

       2014 - 1) 70 years of victory at Dien Bien Phu (May 7th); 2) 70 years of the establishment of Vietnam people's army (December 22nd); 2015 - 3) 65 years of establishing diplomatic relations between the USSR and the DRV (January 30th); 4) 85 years since the establishment of the VCP (February 3d); 5) 40 years of the liberation of South Vietnam (April 30th); 6) the 125th birthday anniversary of Ho Chi Minh (May 19th); 7) the 70th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of Vietnam (September 2nd); 8) the 250th anniversary of the birth of Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du.

       Each of these dates has a specific place in the history of this country. It would be desirable for speakers, basing on their scientific expertise and taking into account the new historical data, which has become publicly available in recent years, to illustrate the role and significance of the events and personalities associated with the related dates, for national revival, protection and formation of Vietnamese state, the development of its distinctive culture, as well as the strengthening of Russian-Vietnamese relations.

       We plan plenary session and successive meetings of two sections: on May 19 ？the Period since 1945？ should be discussed (topics № 1, 3, 5, 7) and on May 20 – ？the Period before 1945？ (topics № 2, 4, 6, 8). Each section includes a few panels, where participants with the help of moderator could discuss the raised issues. Time of presentation will be 20 minutes, discussions and answers – 10 minutes for each paper presentation.

       The length of the submitted abstract should not exceed 300 words, papers – 20-22 standard pages, font Times New Roman, 14 PT, interval 1.5, with footnotes at each page (font size 12). The full papers sent by the authors after the conference (deadline is September 1st) will be considered by the editorial Board for publishing in the collection ？Vietnamese studies. Vol. 5？.

       In case of absentee participation in the conference, please inform the organizing Committee about it and forward your abstract and paper as mentioned.

       The conference will be held at: Moscow, Nakhimovsky prospect, 32, 4th floor, hall of the Academic Council of IFES RAS (both days the conference starts at 11.00).
