       On May 26, at 10:30 am, the Valdai Club will hold an online discussion in partnership with the CITIC Foundation for Reform and Development Studies of China, titled “Directions of China’s Economic Development and Opportunities for Russia”.

       Before the pandemic crisis, the Chinese economy was able to effectively shift the speed and reorient economic growth towards the accelerated development of the service and consumption sectors. These segments of the economy have played a growing role in achieving high rates of economic growth in China in recent years. During the pandemic crisis, the area of investment growth and export growth began to play a more important role. However, in the future, when the crisis is overcome, China is expected to return to the accelerated development of the service and the consumer sectors — in addition to the low base effect, the recovery of household income, the recovery of imports, and deferred demand will also play an important role.

       For the Russian economy, the development of the service sector in China creates additional export opportunities. What are these opportunities and in what segments of the service market? How viable is the Chinese economic growth model? Will investment cooperation between Russia and China become more significant for stimulating mutual trade? Russian and Chinese experts will answer these and other questions.

       Speakers:

       Cao Heping, professor at Peking University;

       Xu Tongkai, former head of the Eurasia Department of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China;
