PORT DICKSON: A 19-year-old motorcyclist who rammed into a policeman in his bid to escape a routine inspection is now being probed for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duties.

Port Dickson OCPD Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said police obtained a three-day remand order from a Magistrate's Court here Friday (May 13).

"Policemen on crime prevention rounds at around 1.20am in Batu 1, Jalan Pantai, had instructed the youth to stop but he refused.

"In his haste to escape, he rammed into a policeman and then crashed into a road divider," he said.

       The suspect was then arrested.

Supt Aidi Sham said all three policemen were in uniform.

The policeman sustained injuries to his head while the suspect injured his shoulders and feet.

Both the policeman and the suspect were taken to the Port Dickson Hospital for treatment.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect decided to run away as he did not have a valid bike licence.

"He was not under the influence of drugs and does not have a criminal record," he said.

Supt Aidi Sham said the matter is being probed under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.

He is also being investigated under Section 353 of the same legislation for using criminal force to obstruct a public servant from discharging his duty.

Offenders can be jailed up to two years, or fined, or both, if found guilty.
