Spanish cops are reportedly looking at the possibility the man's death was drug-related although they are awaiting the results of a post-mortem exam to make an official comment.
The alarm was raised early this afternoon, with his friends alerting staff at the hotel he was staying at with them.
The ongoing investigation is being led by the Civil Guard.
A source close to the investigation said tonight: “I can confirm police are investigating the death of a British man who was staying at a hotel in San Antonio.”

Last month, a 35-year-old British man died after plunging from a second-floor balcony also in San Antonio.
Police sources said drugs were found in his room during a subsequent search and officers were said at the time to be working on the theory he may have been acting under the influence of drugs.
Following his death, it emerged the same man had cheated death in a 30-foot fall in the same resort nearly five years ago.
He ended up impaled on the pole of a sun umbrella in the near-tragedy during September 2018.
