PETALING JAYA: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has received the investigation paper on the alleged theft of over RM25mil linked to three officers of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
In a statement on Wednesday (Sept 29), AGC said the investigation paper on the loss of US$6.94mil (RM29mil) was received on Sept 28 from the MACC.
"The prosecution division will study the matter closely and comprehensively to determine if charges will be filed or if an order for further investigation is required," it said.
The three MACC officers were detained on Sept 20 to assist investigations into allegations of abuse of power and malpractice in the case involving funds connected to the former head of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation Datuk Hasanah Ab Hamid.
The three officers were remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code from Sept 14 to 19.
In April, Hasanah was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal by the High Court for criminal breach of trust involving RM50.4mil of government funds.
The case was withdrawn following a new development.
The arrest of the three MACC officers followed reports that Hasanah had attempted to reclaim the seized money but found part of it missing and replaced with counterfeit notes.
