PETALING JAYA: A witness in the November 2018 Sri Maha Mariamman Temple riots says he did not see anyone attacking firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

M Nagaraju, the 10th prosecution witness, also said he did not know who was responsible for damaging and setting fire to the vehicles that were outside the temple during the incident.

The 66-year-old, who leads a faction in the temple committee, said he maintained his stand that he was neither injured nor bleeding during the riots.

He also concurred with the lawyer that he did not refer to any one of the accused in the witness statement, reported FMT.

“I also did not lodge a report about the rioting on Nov 27, 2018,” he was quoted as saying.

Nagaraju was cross-examined by lawyer R Kithiraj, who is representing accused Muhammad Saifullah Abdulah.

On Nov 26, 2018, a group of men invaded the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya and picked a fight with temple devotees.

Muhammad Adib, who was among the firemen who came to the riot scene to put out a fire, was seriously injured and died three weeks later.

Seventeen men, including Saifullah, were accused of rioting and being in possession of dangerous weapons between 2am and 5am on Nov 26.

The charge, under Section 148 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail term of five years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
