SHAH ALAM: MCA's Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) and GoCare will be distributing 16,000 boxes of face masks donated by Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan to victims affected by the December floods last year.
GoCare manager Xilas Ngang said Chan has donated a total of 500,000 face masks.
Selangor, which was the worst-hit state, will receive 5,000 boxes.
Ngang said the face masks would be distributed to the victims through residents associations and houses of worship.
“Besides Selangor, we will also send the masks to Pahang, Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Johor as these four states were also seriously hit by the floods at the end of 2021 and early 2022,” he said.
GoCare is an initiative under CRSM to assist underprivileged groups and individuals through charity fundraising from the public.
GoCare consultant Datuk Natalie Lim Chong Ly thanked Chan in a statement for the donation of face masks to frontliners, law enforcement agencies and families affected by the floods, adding that CRSM and GoCare are honoured to be part of the distribution efforts.
The group along with the community services organisation - ActNow, visited SJK (C) Khe Beng in Shah Alam to distribute the face masks and disinfectants as part of the "School Pandemic Prevention and Caring Programme".
In addition to that, financial aid was also handed over to families who were affected by the floods.
Meanwhile, Dr Zahir Izuan Azhar, who is a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Teknologi Mara, Sungai Buloh delivered a talk on Covid-19 vaccination to parents who attended the session on Sunday (Feb 27).
Ngang said the awareness talk was to encourage parents to get their children to take the Covid-19 vaccine in view of the rising cases.
GoCare-CRSM will work with ActNow for the awareness talk series, which will be broadcasted live on ACTnow Trooper and GoCare-CRSM’s Facebook platform.
ActNow chief executive officer Melvin Lam said the online talk, which would feature medical professionals, would be aired from March 2 onwards.
He said the talk will allow the audience to have their doubts on Covid-19 cleared.
Meanwhile, Ros Karzelizawani Mohamad, 38, who has a 7-year-old child said the talk given by the doctor has helped clear doubts on vaccination.
“This NGO has helped a lot,” said Ros who was a victim during the Taman Sri Muda floods.
