PETALING JAYA: Furniture worth over RM100,000 has been given to flood-hit families under The GoCare Fusion Of Love flood relief home rebuilding campaign
The furniture – which was distributed on Saturday (Jan 8) to underprivileged families – was co-organised by GoCare Donation CrowdFunding, an initiative by MCA’s Crisis Relief Squad, and the Fusion of Love Malaysian artistes, a non-profit charity organisation.
The artistes who helped to clean homes and donate food boxes to flood victims included Zac, Adrian Tan, Jodie, Julio, Jonathan Lee, Wei, Dickson Chai and Steven while the furniture was sponsored by the Malaysian Furniture Council (MFC).
Apart from the Klang Valley, furniture was also distributed to Bentong and Mentakab in Pahang and also in Negri Sembilan.
The next batch will be sent to disaster areas in Melaka and Johor.
On the programme, GoCare consultant Datuk Natalie Lim Chong Ly said that the GoCare crowdfunding network has been actively raising funds and supplies for disaster victims since the first wave of floods in December 2021.
“During the flood, GoCare and the CRSM volunteer team performed rescue work. When the floodwaters receded, the volunteers discovered that many items in the victims’ homes, including furniture and electrical appliances were damaged,” said Lim.
“GoCare will also be distributing furniture and supplies to other hard-hit areas such as Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, and Melaka as soon as possible,” she said.
Lim added that more than 650 volunteers across nine states were mobilised, and 17,000 lunch boxes, 20,000 dry food packs and more than 9,700 boxes of drinking water were distributed.
She also said that five boats were used to rescue over 250 victims and more than 20 four-wheel-drive vehicles were used to deliver the materials.
Lim added that over RM500,000 worth of materials were sent out and also said that the amount spent on disaster relief is set to increase.
Meanwhile Zhixiang Zac of Fusion Of Love said that the public can still donate mattresses, pillows, sheets, gas stoves, rice cookers, kettles, refrigerators, small appliances, and other items.
“We believe that through kindness, we will bring more warmth to society. So today, we are carrying out a post-disaster reconstruction through GoCare, hoping to help 1,000 families in the disaster area while raising funds through crowdfunding,” he said.
