Robert Jobson, 57, who co-authored the 2002 book Diana: Closely Guarded Secret, appeared on the 36-year-old journalist’s programme on GB News last night. The royal author expressed his views about the Duke of York’s, 61, case after a judge refused to dismiss it.

       Mr Jobson stated: “I think the best thing for Prince Andrew to do is to settle, that way the Queen can look forward to a 70th year on the throne that she can actually enjoy.”

       The Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee this year, with a full itinerary for the Platinum Jubilee already announced by Buckingham Palace, including a four day bank holiday weekend.

       The royal author claimed the best option for the Queen’s son is to opt for a financial settlement over allegations he sexually assaulted Virginia Giuffre when she was 17.

       Allegations the royal has vehemently denied.

       Mr Jobson claimed: “I don't think there is any other option.

       “I don't believe that this is in his interest or anyone's interest that this goes any further.

       “The reality is this whole stench will hang over him, if it goes into a court case.

       “It will all be looked over forensically, which may actually end up putting himself deeper in trouble.”

       Ms Giuffre, who is now 38, is suing the Duke of York after claiming he abused her in 2001.

       Prince Andrew's lawyers have stated the complaint should be dismissed, citing a 2009 deal Ms Giuffre signed with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

       However, a New York judge ruled the case could continue.

       After the royal expert stated his belief Prince Andrew should opt for a settlement, Mr Wootton fired back: “You will have most folks saying ‘if you were innocent, if you have nothing to hide, why on earth are you willing to pay this woman millions of dollars?’.”

       To which, Mr Jobson replied: “Simply to avoid further damage to his reputation.

       “But absolutely, I understand that position.”
