AMPANG: Eight Indonesian men and a Malaysian woman were detained for alleged illegal gambling and cock fighting.

       Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said police raided a location behind a house in Taman Keramat Permai at about 1.30pm on Sunday (Feb 27).

       "We seized about RM990 cash, five roosters, and four mobile phones. Those detained were aged between 30 and 52," he said when contacted on Wednesday (March 2).

       The Indonesian men detained had expired passports, ACP Mohamad Farouk added.

       "All suspects tested negative for drugs. They have been remanded for further investigation," he said.

       The case is being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Open Gaming House Act 1953 and Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act, he said.
