Sir Rod Stewart has made a cheeky swipe at David Beckham by saying that his Knighthood honour is "coming soon".

Stating that he is "honoured to be a Knight" for the King's Foundation, the 79-year-old took his opportunity to take a swipe at the England legend.

David Beckham, who was present at today's event, has previously been accused of "begging for a knighthood".

The 49-year-old previously took to Instagram to post a heartfelt tribute to the monarch to mark his Coronation last May and this received major interest from royal fans.

Despite his good intentions with the post, some of his 89.7 million followers accused him of having an ulterior motive in sharing the post.

At today's event, Sir Rod Stewart said: "Penny [his wife] and I are so honoured to be ambassadors for the King's Trust..."

His mistake at saying 'Trust' was then corrected, with him saying, "Foundation, my apologies".

He then continued: "[We are] wonderfully honoured to be a Knight, and David [Beckham] yours is coming soon."

The event at St James's Palace in London aims to showcase the work of students, teachers, alumni and partners who have helped the organisation.

Also in attendance was the King himself, who remains busy after his recent visit to France.

King Charles was present in London today to recognise those who have contributed to its charitable work.

The monarch resumed his duties in April, after being given the go-ahead to attend engagements by medical professionals.

King Charles continues to receive treatment following his cancer diagnosis back in February.
