KYOTO -- The Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation on Dec. 13 named the Chinese character meaning "gold" as the kanji of the year for 2021.
The foundation, based in in Kyoto's Higashiyama Ward, asks the public for suggestions for the year's kanji annually.
