KOTA KINABALU: Sabah continues to record a high number of new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (Aug 11), registering 1,514 cases, up 131 cases from Tuesday (Aug 10).
State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) said Kota Kinabalu saw a reduction of 63 cases compared to Tuesday, but the state capital is still the district with the highest number of daily cases at 263.
"Close contact cases contributed to 60.5% of these cases in Kota Kinabalu, while 26.3% were symptomatic screenings.
"Sabah's high figure today was also mainly attributed to the surge of cases in Penampang, which nearly tripled to 228 cases compared to 80 cases on Tuesday," said the state Local Government and Housing Minister.
This was followed by Keningau with 140 cases, Tawau with 137 cases and Sandakan with 104 cases.
A new cluster was also reported on Wednesday dubbed Batu 27 Sook cluster in Keningau, he added.
"In total, 61% (925 cases) today involve close contacts, 21.8% (331 cases) are symptomatic screenings and 7.8% (118 cases) are from existing clusters," added Masidi.
