KLANG: Two men who tried to stop an ambulance with their vehicles were charged at the Magistrate's Court here.
K. Moganasuntharan, 63, and his son M. Kartik, 20, had allegedly committed the offence at about 2pm in Jalan Tepi Sungai here on March 24.
The men, who were charged separately before magistrates Amirul Asyraf Abdul Rasid and Noorjidah Mohd Jusan respectively, pleaded not guilty to the accusation.
Moganasuntharan was riding a Modenas motorcycle and Kartik was driving a Toyota Hiace van when the duo allegedly committed the offence of reckless riding that could endanger the public.
They were charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which comes with a jail term of up to five years and a fine of up to RM15,000.
If found guilty, the father and son duo could have their licences revoked and could also be banned from having a driving licence for five years.
Moganasuntharan was slapped with an additional charge of obstructing the ambulance driven by Muhammad Nur Aqhari Rosli.
For the second offence, the senior citizen was charged under Section 341 of the Penal Code and faces a one-month jail or RM1,000 fine or both if found guilty.
The accused were defended by counsel A. Biranta while deputy public prosecutors Nur’Ayuni Jamri and Muhd Hanis Zulkapli prosecuted.
