JOHOR BARU: A Larkin voter has lodged a police report against one of the candidates vying for the state seat for allegedly having a high-tea session with voters to gain support.

Muhammad Syafiz Zainol, 39, a contractor, said he lodged a police report against PKR candidate Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain as he viewed the act as an offence under the Election Offences Act.

“I saw a video of him having hi-tea with the people. As a Larkin voter, I feel that this is a form of bribery to gain the people’s votes.

“As a candidate, he should not be involved in such an act. It is unfair,” he said after filing the report at the Johor Baru South police headquarters here yesterday.

Muhammad Syafiz said he would do likewise against other Larkin candidates if he found them committing a similar act, adding that he felt it was his responsibility to do so as a Larkin voter.

Dr Zamil is down for a six-cornered fight with Mohd Hairi Mad Shah (Umno), Rasid Abu Bakar (Malaysian United Democratic Alliance), Mohamad Riadz Mohamad Hashim (Parti Pejuang Tanah Air), Zulkifli Bujang (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) and Independent Norramadan Buan.
