The US-return Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leaving no stones unturned as each state goes into elections in 2023, which in the longer run will serve as the litmus test for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, where the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to retains power for the third straight term.
Having faced setback in two state assembly elections, loosing seat to Congress- Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka, the saffron party has tightened their belts, being led by PM Narendra Modi, Union homes minister Amit Shah, and BJP national president JP Nadda.
The latest target- Telangana!
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Telangana on Saturday. PM Modi laid foundation stone for several infrastructure development projects worth around ?6,100 crore during his visit to the southern state.
PM Modi's visit comes amid a boycott by the ruling BRS in poll-bound Telangana. Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Union Tourism Minister and newly-appointed president of BJP in Telangana G Kishan Reddy, BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar and other leaders were present on the occasion.
Launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi government and the Congress in Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the state has been "trapped in the claws of dynastic parties."
"Both BRS and Congress are dangerous for people of Telangana..." PM Modi said, adding KCR government is the most "corrupt government."
Why is the Prime Minister's visit to the poll-bound state important for BJP?
PM Modi visited the state of Telangana for the third time this year. Any one would understand that this is the PM's diligent effort in bolstering BJP's image in Telangana, which goes to vote for the state assembly in another 6 months.
BJP had performed well in the last municipal polls, particularly after the BJP's recent defeat in Karnataka. But more than anyone BJP has also understood not to take small wins for granted (case in point- Karnataka)!
The saffron party also undertook major rejig process in its appointing its state unit presidents. One of the changes was appointing Union Minister G Kishan Reddy as the state BJP president in Telangana.
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stones of various infrastructure development projects worth ?6,100 crore in Warangal and lauded the people of Telangana for their "great contribution" to the history of India. This moves comes int he backdrop of the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS), accusing the NDA government of neglecting Telangana.
Further, BRS Working President K T Rama Rao has announced that his party will boycott PM Modi's visit, citing the alleged failure of the centre to implement promises made to Telangana like a ? 20,000 crore coach factory that went to Gujarat.
At a rally, PM Modi commented, "The present government in Telangana has done 4 things, abusing PM Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party government. They made one family the centre for power, they pushed Telangana's economic development into turmoil... duping Telangana into corruption..." .
Despite the canonical thesis, anti-thesis that in unfolding in the state of Telangana, wherein BJP has now indulged in its much afflicted internal conflict, BJP's appointee for the election-bound state, Prakash Javadekar, has expressed optimism about the Prime Minister's visit.
However, will the people of Telangana instil faith in the saffron party? Only time and a much-anticipated election will tell.
