Now in his 80s, he is still adamant that the Scotland murderer Bible John has been caught and is currently behind bars.

Chief Superintendent Joe Jackson, 82, is considered the most famous and successful detective in the history of crime.

He probed over 150 killings in over 30 years in the force.

He released a book called Chasing Killers in 2008 which reveals some of his stories during his duty of work.

Is he married and does he have kids?

There is little information regarding if Joe has remarried or has any more children.

However, he documents his heartbreak from his first marriage and having to leave two daughters behind.

In his book detailing his career with Strathclyde Police, Chasing Killers, the ex-Detective Chief Superintendent revealed the heartache and pressure he felt under to remove himself from the infant Kirsty’s life for her own good.

He admitted that he and his ex-wife Rena were “too young” to marry when she was still in her teens, although they had been together for eight years.

Jackson, 82, left the family home in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, when Kirsty was only just a few weeks old.

In his book he explains that they were too young to realise what was happening, however, Laura, the eldest daughter, took the split “very hard”.

“Due to varying shift patterns, I could not see the girls every weekend as I would have liked and after a while Rena suggested that seeing them irregularly was causing Laura too much heartache, so it might be better if I did not see them again. I reluctantly agreed.

There is no further information to suggest if Kirsty and Laura have rekindled their relationship with their biological father.

How did he catch Scottish serial killer Bible John?

Fifty plus years on from the discovery of the first victim of Bible John, the retired superintendent still is convinced that we already know who the serial killer is.

One of the most credible theories according to Jackson is that Bible John was in fact Peter Tobin, who was convicted for the murders of three women between 1991 and 2006.

In 2018, he told STV News: “It's my own informed opinion that Bible John is now locked up,

"I would say that probably we do know who he was - and I think he was Tobin."

His theory came from the links between the murders Tobin commited and elusive Bible John.

There were also some similarities in the fact that Tobin lived nearby at the time of the Bible John killings, and the fact he was an older man, in his 60s, when he was caught and convicted.

Jackson recalled the fact that Tobin moved away from Glasgow in 1969 with his first wife - whom he had met at the Barrowland Ballroom - The one Bible John’s victims all met at.

He said: "If you look at Tobin's background, and you look at the way the murders happened, and you look at Tobin's reaction, anybody with half a brain who was a murderer would look and say: 'I can't go to dance halls anymore in Glasgow. I've got to get out of Glasgow.'

"Because he knew - and he would know, because it was in all the papers at the time - that detectives were going to all the dance halls in Glasgow, visiting them, looking.

"So that's why I think the murders stopped in Glasgow at that time."

In May 2007 at Edinburgh High Court, Tobin was sentenced to life with a minimum of 21 years for the rape and murder of Angelika Kluk.

By 2008, he was grey haired and hunched, dwarfed by his prison guards as he was tried for the abduction, rape and murder of Vicky Hamilton.

In 2009, and for the third time in three years, Tobin was found guilty for the murder of Dinah McNicol.

It took the jury just 13 minutes to unanimously find him guilty.
