IPOH: A coffee shop assistant in Pusing has been accused of impregnating a girl and then demanding a shophouse from her parents.
Low Jun Heng, 20, denied the allegations that were posted on Facebook by one "Song Angel", who claimed to be the mother of the girl, on Nov 4.
Jun Heng said he was scared for his life as there were also people threatening to beat and kill him in the comment sections of the post.
"I have been having sleepless nights because of the threats and allegations and also been getting stares from people whenever I go to the coffee shop," he told a press conference held by Perak MCA public services and complaints bureau chief Low Guo Nan on Thursday (Nov 11).
The matter has blown up on social media, with the post, which included several photographs of Jun Heng and his family and screenshots of a Facebook Messenger conversation allegedly between him and the girl, being shared over 31,000 times.
Words from the alleged conversation, which were in Chinese, had even been turned into rap lyrics and shared on YouTube and TikTok.
Jun Heng said he was a school dropout who stopped schooling at Form Three and was poor in writing Chinese.
"My friends know that I am not good at Chinese and also believe it is not me.
"I would ask my family members or my friends to help me with the wordings whenever I want to send text messages out," he said, adding that he believes that his Facebook account had been hacked.
"I will delete my account and open a new one," he added.
Jun Heng's mother, Chin Pooi Chu, 42, said she was heartbroken by the matter and did not believe her son had acted as claimed.
"My family runs a coffee shop and I do not believe we have ever offended anyone," she said, adding that a police report was lodged at the Pusing police station on Nov 4.
Guo Nan said he hoped that the person behind the Song Angel Facebook account would come forward to clarify matters.
"If needed, I can even accompany the user to lodge a police report.
"We just want to find out the truth, whether Jun Heng is innocent or the girl as mentioned is a victim," he said, adding that the acts of cyberbullying were stressing out Jun Heng and his family.
"In the current era whereby it is hard to verify news and information on the internet, I urge the people to listen to both sides of the story and to stop circulating the matter on social media," he added.
