PETALING JAYA: Police have opened an investigation into a contentious shoe logo that appeared to resemble the word "Allah" in Arabic script.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that the police had received a report on the matter from a 35-year-old man in Penang.

"The complainant said that he had seen a Facebook post that allegedly insulted the name of 'Allah' on Sunday (April 7).

"According to the post, the logo on the sole of the shoe contained what looked like the word 'Allah' in Arabic script," he said.

He said investigations have been opened under Section 298 of the Penal Code for intentionally wounding the religious sensitivities of Muslims and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"We are tracing down relevant witnesses to assist investigations," he said.
