MELAKA: Barisan Nasional candidate VP Shanmugam has won the six-cornered fight for the Gadek seat.
Shanmugam, the sole candidate from MIC, secured 3,099 votes to win with a 559-vote majority over G. Saminathan from Pakatan Harapan, who had 2,463 votes.
Saminathan won the seat in GE14.
Mohd Amir Fitri Muharam of Perikatan Nasional came in third with 2,041 votes,
Laila Norinda Maon from Perkasa with 68 votes while independent candidates Azafen Amin and BS Mohan Singh won 60 and 23 votes respectively.
All three lost their deposits.
