JOHOR BARU: At least 30% of the seats allocated in the upcoming state election should be allocated to female candidates, says Umno supreme council member Datuk Rosni Sohar.
She said it was important to give women more seats as female voters currently made up more than 50% of the voters in the state.
“We do not just want sweet promises,” said Rosni, who is also Wanita Umno secretary, in a statement.
She added that in the Melaka state election, people accepted the capabilities of the female candidates nominated as their representatives.
“I am sure that by having more candidates in Johor, we will continue to get the support of the voters here.
“I hope the increased number of female candidates in Johor will be an indicator of more women candidates in any state or general election,” she added.
Rosni said women were indisputably the forward foot soldiers for the party and were ready to serve the country.
“We have always been loyal to Umno no matter what the circumstances are.
“We are ready to make sacrifices to stabilise the country,” Rosni added.
Wanita Umno, she said, would work hard to help Barisan Nasional candidates, especially women, win the state election.
In GE14, Umno contested in 35 seats in Johor.
